Hint: Sonic never sucked

This is a popular topic of debate on numerous forums across the web. “Why do Sonic games suck now when we loved the original ones on the Genesis?”
Lots of theories crop up. They’re too complex. There’s too many new characters. The camera sucks. The controls are too finicky. Sonic has become irrelevant to the modern gamer. Only little kids who don’t know any better like modern Sonic games.
There’s some truth to all of these statements. And yet they aren’t the entire truth. At what point does a game series “start sucking”?

With the recent announcement of Rockman Zero Collection for the DS, it’s occurred to me that soon EXE will be the only Rockman sub-franchise that hasn’t had all its games gathered into a compilation (yes, there’s Legends and ZX, but with only two games each, they’re not even trilogies yet). So as I thought about this, I started wondering what I would do if I were in charge of an EXE Collection for the DS.

Starting up here feels kinda like moving into a new house; you’re still figuring out where to put all the furniture and there’s still a bit of echo in each room because you haven’t really settled in yet. So I’m going to try to “unpack” a bit, so to speak. And even though I have Break’s and Flash’s blessings to be here, I still feel like I’m kinda stepping on their toes a bit.
Hence the title. Illegal Operation is sort of a editorial rantspace for my video-game related musings. They may relate to our favorite blue hero (no, the other one) or they may not, but either way I hope you’ll find what I have to say at least amusing if not informative.
For the first Illegal Operation, let’s cover a topic that I’m sure every EXE fan is familiar with: game completion.
