Our regular Saturday columnist, Carda, is being held up by technical difficulties (his laptop’s power cord, like mine, is damaged). I decided, hey, it’s been a while since I wrote something, and I imagined he could use the break anyway.
Props to NetRaptor and Carda both for a continuous stream of fantastic articles for Eye Lazor Beams. I am extremely thankful to have such talented writers on staff; if you haven’t read any of their fiction, I can’t plug them enough.
On the news front; Break and I are coming off of hiatus soon so you can expect new content to trickle back in. We haven’t forgotten about the project we teased way back last year on National Dreamcast/Ice Fairy Day, we haven’t forgotten about the audio columns, and most important of all we haven’t forgotten about you, our faithful followers.
That said, here’s a few disjointed ramblings on anime series I’ve watched recently. Spoilers abound, you have been warned. More after the jump!

This is a popular topic of debate on numerous forums across the web. “Why do Sonic games suck now when we loved the original ones on the Genesis?”
Lots of theories crop up. They’re too complex. There’s too many new characters. The camera sucks. The controls are too finicky. Sonic has become irrelevant to the modern gamer. Only little kids who don’t know any better like modern Sonic games.
There’s some truth to all of these statements. And yet they aren’t the entire truth. At what point does a game series “start sucking”?

Quick note to our readers: I wrote this one a while back and posted it elsewhere; I would have posted it here right away but I kinda wanted to get my feet wet first. I’m endeavoring to maintain this as a weekly feature here, likely skipping any weekends we have a new podcast for you. We’ll see how well I can hold to that schedule. ^_^; At any rate, here’s my very first IO article ever.

With the recent announcement of Rockman Zero Collection for the DS, it’s occurred to me that soon EXE will be the only Rockman sub-franchise that hasn’t had all its games gathered into a compilation (yes, there’s Legends and ZX, but with only two games each, they’re not even trilogies yet). So as I thought about this, I started wondering what I would do if I were in charge of an EXE Collection for the DS.

Starting up here feels kinda like moving into a new house; you’re still figuring out where to put all the furniture and there’s still a bit of echo in each room because you haven’t really settled in yet. So I’m going to try to “unpack” a bit, so to speak. And even though I have Break’s and Flash’s blessings to be here, I still feel like I’m kinda stepping on their toes a bit.
Hence the title. Illegal Operation is sort of a editorial rantspace for my video-game related musings. They may relate to our favorite blue hero (no, the other one) or they may not, but either way I hope you’ll find what I have to say at least amusing if not informative.
For the first Illegal Operation, let’s cover a topic that I’m sure every EXE fan is familiar with: game completion.

So, yeah. I’m The New Guy (With The Gun) here at ELB. You may recognize me from such classics as the Operate Shooting Star speculation episode. Apparently I scored really high on some sort of secret recruitment exam during that recording or something, because here I am.
*is handed a sheet of paper from off-camera* This just in! “Stop adlibbing and read the stupid cue cards, you moron.”
Oh. Um. “EXE 4 Sucks”. Wait, why did I need a cue card for that?
[introductory recording redacted]
In all seriousness, I’m humbled and overjoyed to be a part of this team and look forward to many future podcasts with Break and Flash. Operate on!

Due to overwhelming popular demand from buyers, BreakMan and I are reopening VendorMan’s for everyone who missed out, as well as for everyone who wants to pick up some last-minute gift ideas for Christmas!
In addition, VendorMan’s is now open to the general public, so if you missed out on signing up, that’s okay! The shops are only open temporarily and can close at any time, but our current plan is to leave them open during the Christmas season.
We’re still offering our free gift packages and bundles, so please, stop on by and look– we still have PLENTY of great items at awesome prices!
Have a very Merry Christmas and a happy new year!
VendorMan’s 2009 Holiday Sale

I shall soon join the denizens of Black Earth.

Hey, guys! It’s that time again. As we get closer and closer to the end of the year, things start to slow down around here. Historically, the holiday season has been a big roadblock for Flash and myself as far as keeping up a steady stream of content. This is because, quite frankly, we become very, VERY busy IRL during the holidays. For example, I’m going to be moving again in about a month and a half, so that’s going to take up the majority of my time. Rest assured, we do not plan to abandon the website during these last couple of months, but updates are going to be spaced a lot farther apart until the new year.
Having said that, be assured that Flash and I are still working as hard as we can on new stuff to share with you guys! Join me after the jump, and I’ll give you an inside scoop on the things that we’ve been working on.

I found a good thing to buy, so I bought it.

I’d like to apologize again for missing my deadline last week, but I really was feeling quite miserable and had to take it easy for a bit. Thanks to those of you who that wished me well. I’m feeling much better now.
At any rate, here it is: the third installation of our Sonic discussion. Some of you may remember that when Flash and I originally recorded this one, we became victims of an automated system restart which caused us to lose the entire column. We could have gone ahead and just re-recorded it right then and there, but it just wouldn’t have been the same; all of our responses would have felt largely forced and not as natural.
But by this point, it’s been long enough that we’ve finally gotten back into the swing of Sonic discussion, and we’re really happy with the way that this one turned out. Even though a lot of unnecessary filler got cut during editing, the finished product still weighs in at over two hours. Sorry about that, but there’s just too much good discussion that I just couldn’t cut.
Although this ends the Episode 08 trilogy, I can pretty much guarantee that we’ll be coming back to discuss various other aspects of Sonic the Hedgehog at a later date, so keep an eye on the horizon. Meanwhile, enjoy Act 3. ^_^
